Scholarship program for ultra-poor children

Ultra poor are considered those who struggle to gather daily food half the year, those who rely on hard physical labor & with little or no financial stability within such rural communities. These families aren’t able make ends meet, let along afford education for their children regardless of their child’s potential. Due to lack of finance such children only have the opportunity to get primary education and are vastly deprived of middle and higher education. Such families are of abundance within the members of the micro finance program community of ADI.

ADI thus, has been providing scholarships for such students who with such support will be able to live up to their potential and be given an opportunity to break out of the poverty circle by achieving higher education. The scholarship consists of a monthly donation of BDT 600 which is used to buy text books, notebooks, stationary and pay for tuition. ADI is far from reaching its program’s maturity and since its inception in 2010 has been supporting 6 students believe they can achieve

After-school home tuition program

It’s been observed during implementation of rural micro finance programs of ADI, that due to lack of education most ultra-poor families were and still are unable to break out of poverty or improve their socio-economic state. It’s seen that the parents of this generation like their fathers before have been detached from education completely since they rely on other methods of income generation and therefore are unable to help their children with their home work and school studies which discourages them to stay interested in getting education or stay in school.

ADI thus has taken the initiative of opening after school tuition programs in all the branch offices throughout the country for such families so that their children get all the help necessary. They are provided with 2 hours of daily tuition by hired local teachers or senior college students. The branch offices which are later on transformed into class rooms are fitted with chalkboards and floor mats for sitting arrangements.

The aim of this program is to encourage the primary school students to remain in school by driving out all fears of education (inability to complete home works, etc.) and allowing them to see education with a positive attitude
